The Tokyo Smart City Mobility Hackathon 2026 is an intensive, high-energy, 48-hour continuous product development competition open to software engineers, UI/UX designers, data scientists, and urban planning students. The goal is simple yet incredibly challenging: build functioning software prototypes that optimize public transportation routes, reduce pedestrian traffic congestion, or lower urban vehicular emissions using real anonymized city movement data sets. Participants can register as pre-formed teams of up to five people or join solo and form teams during an opening networking mixer. The venue remains open continuously, offering high-speed fiber internet networks, hardware prototyping stations, comfortable sleeping pods, and fully catered hot meals to support the intense building process. Expert mentors from elite technical companies and municipal engineering divisions will circulate around the tables to provide engineering advice and help teams bypass difficult code errors. The event culminates in an exciting live pitching session before a panel of tech executives and venture capitalists, competing for massive cash awards, cloud server credits, and direct placement opportunities in startup incubation programs.
