Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa 2026 is a unique art and cultural festival that brings the streets of Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, to life under the theme of the Moon. Taking place from September 18 to October 4, 2026, the festival spreads across the Shimokita Senrogai area, nearby shopping streets, station spaces, and other locations throughout the neighborhood.

Visitors can explore large-scale outdoor artworks and creative installations by artists from Japan and overseas while walking through one of Tokyo’s most distinctive cultural neighborhoods. The 2026 edition features works from five groups of domestic and international artists, alongside music, theatre, food experiences, workshops, and community-led activities. Around 100 different programs and creative experiences are planned across the 17-day festival.

A major attraction is Luke Jerram's “Museum of the Moon,” a spectacular large-scale representation of the Moon featuring detailed imagery of its surface. The festival also expands beyond traditional exhibitions with immersive experiences, including the returning “Nekomachi” immersive theatre, where participants explore Shimokitazawa while experiencing a story through the streets themselves.

Whether you are interested in contemporary art, photography, live performances, local culture, food, or simply want to experience Shimokitazawa in a completely different atmosphere, Moon Art Night offers an engaging way to explore the neighborhood after dark. Many activities can be enjoyed while walking around the area, while certain special experiences require tickets.

Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa offers a special opportunity to experience art, culture, and entertainment throughout one of Tokyo’s most creative neighborhoods. Visitors can enjoy impressive moon-themed installations, outdoor artworks, live performances, workshops, food experiences, and interactive programs while exploring Shimokitazawa.

The event is worth attending because it combines contemporary art with the atmosphere of the city itself. Instead of viewing artworks only inside a traditional gallery, visitors can discover installations across streets, public spaces, and local venues. It is a great experience for art lovers, photographers, couples, families, tourists, and anyone looking for a memorable evening in Tokyo.
