Kichijōji Fall Festival 2026 is a vibrant celebration of Japanese tradition, community, and autumn culture taking place in Kichijoji, Tokyo, on September 12 and 13, 2026. The 54th Kichijoji Autumn Festival is held in connection with the annual festival of Musashino Hachimangu Shrine, one of the area's important traditional cultural celebrations.
Throughout the festival, Kichijoji's streets and shopping areas become a lively stage for mikoshi (portable shrine) processions, with neighborhood groups carrying their elaborately decorated mikoshi through the streets. The main shrine mikoshi is accompanied by traditional elements including shrine horses, kiyari performers, traditional dance, music, and taiko performances, creating an energetic atmosphere throughout the neighborhood.
The festival also features children's mikoshi and floats, giving younger participants an opportunity to experience Japanese festival traditions firsthand. On September 13, multiple mikoshi gather around the Kichijoji Station north area, creating one of the festival's most spectacular moments.
Visitors can also enjoy festival stalls and yatai appearing around Kichijoji during the festival period. The combination of traditional processions, local performances, food, shopping streets, and community participation makes the celebration an excellent opportunity to experience the lively character of contemporary Kichijoji alongside longstanding Japanese festival traditions.
